A tube heater can heat a room, depending on the size of the room and the wattage of the heater. Tube heaters are constructed to provide a steady and low heat output that can assist in keeping a comfortable temperature in small spaces. However, they may not be sufficient to heat a large or poorly insulated room, especially in cold weather.
Morris tubular heaters do not have built-in thermostats, as they are designed to provide a constant and low-level heat output. However, some customers may prefer to have more control over the temperature and energy consumption of their heaters. That is why tubeheaters.co.uk offers a range of thermostats that can be purchased separately and connected to the tubular heaters. You can buy a plug-in thermostat that plugs into the wall socket and regulates the power supply to the heater.
A thermostat is a device that regulates the temperature of a tubular heater by switching it on or off depending on the ambient temperature. By using a thermostat, energy can be conserved and space can be prevented from overheating or underheating. A plug-in thermostat plugs into the wall socket and controls the power supply to the heater.
This is another very popular question: “Where do you mount a tubular heater?” or “Where should a tube heater be placed?”.
The best place to put a tube heater depends on the size and shape of the space you want to heat, as well as the heat loss and insulation of the area. Generally, tube heaters are suitable for providing low and steady background heat for small and enclosed spaces, such as airing cupboards, utility rooms, or greenhouses. You can mount tube heaters on walls, or floors depending on your preference and convenience. However, you should follow some basic guidelines to ensure the safety and efficiency of your tube heaters, such as:
● Keep a minimum distance of 50 mm between the tube heater and any combustible material, such as wood, paper, or fabric.
● Avoid placing the tube heater near flammable substances, such as gas, oil, or paint.
● Place the tube heater in the area of highest heat loss, such as near windows, doors, or vents.
● Choose the appropriate wattage and length of the tube heater for your space. For example, a 1-foot tube heater consumes 60 watts of power and can heat an area of 1.5 square meters.

What does a tubular heater do?
A tube heater works by utilizing an electric heating element to generate heat.
The basic functioning of a tube heater involves the following steps:
1. Electric Current: When the tube heater is connected to a power source, an electric current flows through the heating element.
2. Heating Element: The heating element, typically made of resistance wire such as nichrome, offers high electrical resistance. As the current passes through the wire, it encounters resistance, which converts electrical energy into heat.
3. Heat Generation: The resistance wire heats up rapidly, reaching high temperatures. This heat is then transferred to the surrounding air or objects through convection or radiation, depending on the design of the heater.
4. Warmth Distribution: The heated air or objects radiate warmth into the surrounding space, providing localized or supplementary heating. Tube heaters can be controlled by thermostats or timers to regulate the temperature and optimize energy usage.

The main differences between a cartridge heater and a tubular heater lie in their construction, form factor, and intended applications:
● Construction: Cartridge heaters are typically cylindrical heating elements encased in a metal sheath, often made of stainless steel. The heating element is tightly compacted inside the cartridge, providing high heat density. Tubular heaters, on the other hand, consist of a heating element, usually a resistance wire, enclosed within a protective tube, which is typically made of stainless steel or aluminium.
● Form Factor: Cartridge heaters are designed to be inserted into drilled holes or cavities in solid materials, such as metal blocks or moulds. They are characterized by their compact size and direct contact with the material being heated. Tubular heaters are longer and more elongated, resembling tubes or rods. They are used for space heating.
● Applications: Cartridge heaters are commonly used in industrial processes such as injection moulding, packaging, and sealing applications, where precise and localized heating is required. They provide intense heat in a small area. Tubular heaters, on the other hand, are versatile and can be used in various applications including residential, commercial, and industrial heating, such as in bathrooms, greenhouses, ovens, and ducts.
● Heat Distribution: Cartridge heaters are designed to provide concentrated heat in a specific area. They offer rapid heating and precise temperature control. Tubular heaters, on the other hand, are designed for broader heat distribution along the length of the tube. They are often used for space heating where a more even heat distribution is desired. In summary, cartridge heaters are compact, high-density heating elements used for precise and localized heating in industrial applications, while tubular heaters are elongated heating elements used for broader heat distribution in various residential, commercial, and industrial heating applications.
